Mother’s Day is less than a month away. Do you know what you’re going to give mom? We have an idea that may be more memorable than flowers or a dinner out: a room make-over or decor update. What better way to say thanks and I love you that to spruce up her space?
We found Mother’s Day inspiration to share from Houzz and Ashton Kutcher, the Hollywood celebrity with Iowa roots. Years ago, Ashton helped his step-dad build the family home but the basement was not given the same treatment as the rest of the house. To thank his mom for all that she’s done for him over the years, and give her a place to better enjoy time with family and friends, he and his step-dad re-designed and decorated the basement with her in mind.

Ashton searched Houzz to find a a design firm in Iowa to re-design the space with a spare bedroom, TV area, gathering space and a custom display space for her canning project, homemade salsa – all with his mother’s taste and sensibilities. While you may not be able to afford a project on this scale, there are resources on Houzz for every budget – including thousands of FREE design and style ideas.
See how the Iowa designer pulled the redesign together!
If your mom is a collector, hobbyist, crafter, TV enthusiast, etc., you can find examples of how designers have interpreted space for such things. Often, there are shopping resources with prices so if you see a light, mirror, shelf, etc. that you like, you can buy it (or save it for FREE at Houzz online in your own account). Can’t decide what colors, fixture, decor idea, etc. works best, create a poll to get feedback from the Houzz community. This worked great for Ashton and his step-dad in their debate over recliners.
